Admission FAQs

  • We follow the Cayman Islands and UK Education Age standards which require that children who are 4 years of age or older will be placed in our Reception program.

As such, the age progression follows as:

    • Age 4 yrs at Sept 1 will be placed in Reception

    • Age 5 yrs at Sept 1 will be placed in Year 1

    • Age 6 yrs at Sept 1 will be placed in Year 2

    • Age 7 yrs at Sept 1 will be placed in Year 3

    • Age 8 yrs at Sept 1 will be placed in Year 4

    • Age 9 yrs at Sept 1 will be placed in Year 5

    • Age 10 yrs at Sept 1 will be placed in Year 6

We recognize that all children develop at different rates, and that for families transferring from other schools there may be a gap in your child’s placement.

Please let us know on your application form if your child’s age does not align with the above so that we can work with you to determine the best placement for your child to fully support their learning outcomes.

  • At Island Primary, our dedicated and experienced staff strive to meet the diverse and often complex needs of all children in our care to ensure all who attend Island Primary reach their full potential through having full and equal access to the curriculum offered.

Prior to a place being offered, and to ensure that Island Primary is equipped to provide all reasonable accommodations to support the learning needs of a child with an identified SEN, the parent/guardian must submit their child’s most recent psychologist and/or specialist report(s), along with the application form.

When a full-time 1:1 aide is required to meet a student’s learning needs, parents are responsible for sourcing and covering associated costs and for finding an aide for however long is deemed necessary by the school. It is important to note that a place can only be offered if this additional level of support is deemed feasible by the school, such as when considering current learning support and SEN accommodations already in place within individual classes.
